PDO Threading

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

PDO threads strengthen the skin to improve collagen at the points where they are precisely threaded through. The natural increase in collagen production uplifts sagging skin on the face and chin, smooths wrinkles, and creates definition.

What are PDO Threads and how do they work?

PDO threads are safe and absorbable surgical sutures. They are also used to perform cardiovascular surgeries and are one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body. The skin fully absorbs it within 4 to 6 months and does not leave behind any scar tissue.

PDO Thread Lift procedure is a minimally invasive alternative to facelift surgery. Thread lifts aim to tighten facial skin by inserting medical-grade thread material into your face and then “pulling” your skin up by tightening the thread. Once in place, the PDO threads then begin to stimulate the production of your skin’s natural collagen over several months to boost the youthful look effect.

Are PDO Threads safe?

PDO Thread Lifts are considered a low-risk and minimally invasive procedure, but common side effects like redness, bruising, and swelling may occur.

PDO threads gained FDA approval in 2004, they have since been used in surgery and wound closure because the thread is completely absorbable. Recently it has found its way into the world of aesthetics because of the naturally produced collagen that is left behind. MedAndSpa staff is trained and certified to provide PDO Thread Lifts at our medical spa in Burridge.

What are the benefits?

Fills out hollow cheeks

Uplifts jowls to create a more defined jawline

Smooths deep wrinkles and sagging cheeks

Youthful glow and appearance

Defined and contoured facial structure

Increase in natural collagen production

Similar to a facelift, except fewer risks and recovery time

How quickly can I see the results of the PDO Threads?

Results are often visible almost immediately following the procedure. As the swelling and bruising start to subside days afterward, accurate presentation of the results is apparent. However, the best results are seen 5 to 6 weeks post-procedure which is when the naturally produced collagen starts to form along the threads. Patients notice that results continue to improve over several months.

How long do the results from the PDO threads last?

The results from a thread lift last from 1 to 3 years, on average about 2. The duration of results may vary between patients due to individual skin type, skin health, age, genetics, and other factors. For best results, MedAndSpa recommends combining a thread lift with other kinds of anti-aging treatments which we can advise you on during and post-treatment.

What is the downtime with PDO threads?

Recovery time after a thread lift is overall minimal. While for some there may be some visible swelling and bruising, many can return to work and normal activities within the next day or few days. Specific restrictions, like exercising, may be necessary and will be discussed upon consultation.

Which areas can be treated?

Many people choose a thread lift for facial areas that “sag” or look less tight, including:

jowls and jawline

brow line

cheeks

under-eye area

forehead

During your free consultation with a MedAndSpa Thread Lift expert, a customized plan of treatment with appropriate expectations of results will be discussed upon consultation.

Thread lift vs. Facelift

The minimally invasive thread lift procedure attributes to the fact that the results aren’t as dramatically effective as a surgical facelift. A thread lift is also less expensive than a facelift. You can go right back to work after having it done and the recovery time is minimal.
